As proceedings got underway in the House of Commons to debate Article 50, it emerged that a group of MPs has tabled an amendment to the bill that will force a SECOND REFERENDUM.

According to the text of the amendment if it was passed, it would lead to a referendum about accepting the terms of the exit deal that is negotiated with the EU in Brussels.

Published by The Independent, it reads: “A referendum is to be held on whether the United Kingdom should approve the United Kingdom and Gibraltar exit package proposed by HM Government at conclusion of the negotiations triggered by Article 50(2) for withdrawal from the European Union or remain a member of the European Union.”

It says the question on the ballot should be: “Do you support the Government’s proposed United Kingdom and Gibraltar exit package for negotiating withdrawal from the European Union or Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union?”

The MPs supporting this amendment include Labour’s Owen Smith, Heidi Alexander and David Lammy, with the Green Party’s Caroline Lucas also adding her name to it.

It is expected that the amendment will be voted down, but at the same time surely it will just slow down the whole process for a majority of voters who said that Brexit means Brexit – full stop.
