Video has emerged on Twitter of a man suspected of driving a van into a group of Muslims outside a mosque blowing a kiss shortly after he was arrested.
It was uploaded earlier today by a user called @hooyomataalo, and it shows what is thought to be the 48-year-old male ‘pouting his lips’ towards people that had gathered outside of the police van.
According to other witnesses who were at the scene of the attack, the suspect was also heard shouting ‘I want to kill all Muslims – I did my bit.’
We should point out that at the present time, this video is circulating on social media but it hasn’t been referenced directly by the authorities who were investigating the attack.
Finsbury Park Mosque chairman Mohammed Kozbar described it as a ‘terror attack’ and told The Sun:
Whoever did this, he did it to hurt people and it’s a terrorist attack.
We call it a terrorist attack as we called it in Manchester, Westminster and London Bridge.
The van drove over people who were leaving late prayers. They were gathering in Seven Sisters Road.
In a statement this morning, the Metropolitan Police have also confirmed that they are working along the line of enquiry that there was only one person inside the vehicle – this goes against initial eyewitnesses accounts of there being two or even three individuals inside the van at the time.
The brief statement also revealed that a senior figure within the mosque had discouraged any sort of aggression towards the attacker beyond keeping him restrained until the police arrived – members of the public had kept him from running away.
