This is probably the best thing I have seen all day. Nick Clegg blasted by a BBC presenter over the Liberal Democrats pledge to have a second referendum
The BBC presenter applied pressure to Mr Clegg: “The fact is the British public don’t seem convinced. It does feel like a do-over to them, the idea that there should be a second call on all this and it certainly hasn’t helped you in the local elections. Disaster really.”
Mr Clegg hit back saying “Without sounding pedantic, it’s not a second, it would be the first referendum on what the actual deal looks like.”
But Myrie jumped back insisting it was not a clear proposal for UK voters.
He said: “You need to be very clear about that don’t you, that’s the problem.”
He said: “We’re very clear about the fact that this is not repeating last year’s debate. It would be the first time that we would be able to compare a concrete proposition because remember the Brexiteers, very cleverly, if very cynically, claimed that Brexit would give us £350 million for the NHS.
“That was actually the only concrete claim they really made and that’s disappeared in a puff of smoke.
“They didn’t really actually set out in any great detail what it meant in practice.”
It is now clear that the Liberal Democrats do not accept that referendum result and would like a re-run.
The Liberal Democrats are expected to split the Labour vote with many younger voters wishing to remain within the European Union.
The Conservatives are on for a landslide victory when the British people go to the polls on June 8th.
