The Liberal Democrats plan to legalise and regulate the sale of Cannabis to the general public which will hopefully raise £1 billion through taxation.
Mr Farron has been blasted over his parties policy to legalise the drug which they believe would raise £1 billion in taxes.
Crick said: “You reckon you can raise £1bn a year from a cannabis tax, I mean this is extraordinary – so your economic plans are dependent on people smoking cannabis?”
Mr Farron replied: “Our economic plans are dependent upon us balancing the books by 2019/20.”
The presenter interrupted and added: “And people smoking cannabis.”
But the party leader continued to defend his economic strategy. He said it was about “making sure we put a penny on income tax for health so £6bn a year going into our hospitals”.
Crick cut Mr Farron off once more and said: “And people smoking cannabis.”
Mr Farron then said the pledge was also about protecting cannabis users and “taking back control from the criminal gangs”.
He said: “Now the policy to do what Canada’s doing to regulate cannabis, to make sure people are protected from harm and to make sure the amount of money you just set out doesn’t go into the pocket of gangsters, that is a good thing.
“And it’s on the basis of advice we’ve had from acting and previous chief constables.
“It is about minimising harm to people who make use of substances like that and above all else making sure you take back control from the criminal gangs.”
Do you think now is the right time to make Cannabis (otherwise known as ‘Weed’) legal?
